Being aware of importance of the quality management of maritime shipping and navigation on Russia’s inland waterways Volga Shipping applies the best practices to ensure operational safety and prevent environmental pollution.

The Company's policy in the field of safe operation of its fleet is based on compliance with international and national standards and is aimed at ensuring safety, prevention of accidents and environmental pollution.

The company's top management understands, supports and directs its activities in accordance with the requirements of national and international organizations, assumes all responsibility assigned by the International Management Code for the Safe Operation of Ships and for Pollution Prevention (ISM Code), the Code of Inland Water Transport of the Russian Federation and the Maritime Labor Convention, 2006.

Volga Shipping considers the policy of managing the safety of navigation and environmental protection as a priority and attaches particular importance to proper understanding and devotion to the Company’s policy by both onshore and shipboard personnel of the Company.

The safety policy is aimed at:

  • ensuring safe practice of operating ships and safe conditions for crew members;
  • increasing the energy efficiency of the fleet and reducing harmful emissions into the atmosphere;
  • assessing all identified risks associated with the operation of ships and prevention the risks;
  • permanent improvement of the skills of onshore and shipboard personnel in safety management;
  • preparation for emergency situations related to the fleet operation;
  • obtaining positive assessments of the Company's fleet during inspections by Port State Control (PSC), the Flag State Control (FSC), or by the basin administrations of the inland waterways, the authorities of state maritime and river supervision and other regulatory organizations.

The Company’s safe fleet operation policy is ensured by permanent improvement of an efficiently functioning Safety Management System (SMS) compliant with the requirements of the ISM Code and the Code of Inland Water Transport of the Russian Federation.

Waterborne traffic is carried out in strict compliance with international and national standards for the safe transportation of general, dry bulk, liquid bulk cargoes.

Volga Shipping has all the required certificates and licenses to provide a broad range of transport services for the delivery of cargo to the ports of Russia and to overseas destinations.
