River Fleet Museum (Nizhny Novgorod) opens permanent exhibition on the Volga Shipping

On August 3, 2016, a permanent exhibition on the «Po Volge» Steamship Company and the Volga Shipping Company (a part of the UCL Holding) was opened at the River Fleet Museum at the Volga State University of water transport.

The exhibition is located in the 19th Сentury hall of the River Fleet Museum. The «Po Volge» Steamship Company, established in 1843, was one of the biggest and most well-known in Russia. The Company transported cargos and passengers. The exhibition is dedicated to different stages of the company development. Unique and scarce photographs, mockup steam and motor vessels enable to retrace the shipping company’s history before the revolution and development of the state enterprise, get to know formation of one of the biggest European shipping companies – the Volga Unified River Shipping Company, learn about the recent history of the Volga Shipping Company – the legal successor of the Volga Unified River Shipping Company.

The new material of the River Fleet Museum includes the topic “Oil and oil products transportation along the Volga in different historic periods”.

The River Fleet Museum at the Volga State University of water transport in Nizhny Novgorod is celebrating its 95th anniversary in 2016. The museum exhibition, located in seven halls, depicts the river fleet history from the first Volga vessels till the modern ones, built in the 21st century.

The Volga Shipping is one of the largest shipping companies in Russia, it celebrated its 170th anniversary in 2013. The company performs cargo transportation along the rivers and lakes of the country. According to the results of the navigation 5.6 mln tons of cargos were transported by the Company in 2015.

The Volga Shipping Company is part of the VBTH holding – a shipping division of the international transport group Universal Cargo Logistics Holding (the majority shareholder of the VBTH), consolidating a number of Russian railway, stevedoring and logistics companies. The division also includes the North-West shipping company, V.F. Tanker and a number of shipbuilding and cruise assets.
