Being aware of importance of the quality management of maritime shipping and navigation on Russia’s inland waterways Volga Shipping applies the best practices to ensure operational safety and prevent environmental pollution.

The Company's policy in the field of safe operation of its fleet is based on compliance with international and national standards and is aimed at ensuring safety, prevention of accidents and environmental pollution.

Volga Shipping considers the policy of managing the safety of navigation and environmental protection as a priority and attaches particular importance to proper understanding and devotion to the Company’s policy by both onshore and shipboard personnel of the Company.

The safety policy is aimed at:

  • Ensuring safe practice of operating ships and safe conditions for crew members
  • Assessing all identified risks associated with the operation of ships and prevention the risks
  • Preparation for emergency situations related to the fleet operation
  • Increasing the energy efficiency of the fleet and reducing harmful emissions into the atmosphere
  • Permanent improvement of the skills of onshore and shipboard personnel in safety management
  • Obtaining positive assessments of the Company's fleet during inspections by Port State Control (PSC), the Flag State Control (FSC), or by the basin administrations of the inland waterways, the authorities of state maritime and river supervision and other regulatory organizations

The Company’s safe fleet operation policy is ensured by permanent improvement of an efficiently functioning Safety Management System (SMS) compliant with the requirements of the ISM Code and the Code of Inland Water Transport of the Russian Federation.
