Volga Shipping Company undertakes active measures to mitigate the consequences of the accident onboard M/V VF Tanker-16: emergency response center has been established with specialists sent to the scene of the accident.

— We express our deepest condolence to the relatives of the lost seafarers. We are currently doing our best to help the injured and provide necessary support to their families. I have talked to doctors and special services today. One of the crewmembers is in critical but stable condition, the other two are in satisfactory condition. All of them are being provided with required medical assistance. The situation is under my personal control.
The shipping company is financing high quality medical serviced delivered to the injured and the delivery of their relatives to Makhachkala.
The company management has made a decision on financial support to the families of the lost and injured crewmembers.
About accident:
On 11 June 2019, at about 4:30 a.m. (Moscow time), during crude oil unloading at the port of Makhachkala, an explosion occurred in the engine room of M/V VF Tanker-16 followed by smoke spreading to accommodation spaces of the superstructure. The fire contained quickly. The death toll was 3 of 12 crewmembers with 3 injured persons delivered to medical centers. No oil spill at the site. Special services are involved at the scene of the accident.
Oil tanker VF Tanker-16 is a ship of Volgo-Don Max series of Project RST27. Built in 2013. Intended for transportation of crude oil and oil products without restriction of temperature of flash-point.
